Silver Darlings illustration started out as a commission for a birthday present for a wonderful lady who is a talented musician and who had just published a book called Silver Darlings. Silver Darlings tells the story of the lives of the people who followed the herring shoals along the north east coast of England from Lindisfarne to Lowestoft Hand made by Alison in Cornwall.

Sculpture Garden in St Ives, Cornwall – I make all my lampshades with fabric that has been printed with my illustrations.
Inspired by visiting the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden in St Ives Cornwall, I’ve created a panoramic illustration which follows my walk through the gardens and into the studio. There is something almost “Miss Haversham” about the Studio, a gentle feeling of decay, yet it looks as Dame Barbara has just downed her tools and walked out of the room, or stood up from the Bertoia chair after a contemplative break in the greenhouse room, even though it is over 40 years now since the Museum was opened to the public.

Alison Bick is a designer/illustrator living in Cornwall. She creates unique illustrations inspired by the natural world and family events with a modern heritage approach.
Alison hasn't always been a lamp maker but pursued her creative dream whilst working as a web and graphic designer. In 2011 she made her first pictures from laser cut fabrics, and then a screen printing workshop was the changing point for a new direction as she began selling her screenprints at design fairs around Cornwall.
In 2017 she started making lampshades with fabric printed illustrations, and they became so popular that she expanded her range of floral and seaside inspired designs. She says, "Now I am obsessed with lampshades! I notice they are in almost every scene of every film I watch! They are a great way to create a mood in a room, or add a dash of colour and vibrancy."
Alison loves bold colours - especially the gorgeous colours created by nature.
