Jenny Evans is a new, up and coming textile artist. Born in Plymouth and having just moved to Cardiff, the 21 year old has always been passionate about art, but only recently she discovered her love for textiles. Although she may be new to the medium, her work has already gained attention from galleries and other artists, paving the way for a promising future career.
Having studied painting and drawing as part of her A Level in Art, Jenny utilises these skills in her work to create unique, detailed pieces whilst using watercolour to add depth and colour. Jenny is passionate about using second hand and up cycled materials in her work, from old showroom fabric books, to repurposed scarves, she likes to think outside the box with what she views as a material as well as the way she uses it. Jenny likes to add a three dimensional, rustic feel to her images by allowing fabric to rouche and fray; she includes metallic and iridescent fabrics to further this sense of depth.
Jenny has just started her textiles degree in Cardiff. The opportunity to study textiles at such a high level is immensely exciting to Jenny, as she can expand her knowledge and range of techniques while exploring who she is as an artist.
Jenny’s key sources of inspiration are travel and nature. She finds the way other cultures use colour, texture and shape deeply inspiring and is looking forward to producing work influenced by her travels. She likes to work from photographs so she can create her truly unique take on her real life experiences.
