Founded by Graham and Penny, Little Blue Budgie is a family-run, independent business built on a shared love of Scandinavian-inspired furniture, discovering independent and quirky artists, selling clothing and stylish welly boots, and finding beautiful objects to suit any home. Our ethos is to source wherever possible from individual artisans and small studios, many of whom are based in the South West. We also travel further afield or collaborate with larger companies for the right items. With well over 30 years of experience between us, Graham and Penny have a finely tuned eye for alternative homeware, and our Totnes-based shop offers a colourful, creative, and truly magical shopping experience.
Graham Burrell
Originally from Bucks, Graham moved to Devon in the mid 1990s, swapping his raving days for fresh sea air and a slower pace of life. He comes from an ancestory employed in the furniture bisiness. This lineage stretching back many generations and is himself a highly accomplished maker having served his apprenticeship in High Wycombe and studied at Bucks College ( as it was in the late 1970's-80's ) now Buckinghamshire New University. Although he has since hung up his tool belt, his deep knowledge of craftsmanship continues to shape the quality and character of the pieces found in the shop.
Penny Gillo
Before founding Little Blue Budgie, Penny helped run a successful art gallery in Dartmouth and brings extensive knowledge of the art world, along with strong connections to local and national artists. A Devon local, Penny has a passion for nature, music, and sea swimming, an energy and creativity that is reflected throughout the space.
Claire Gillo
Penny’s daughter Claire also works part-time at Little Blue Budgie alongside her work as a photographer (www.clairegillo.com), helping with the website and the day-to-day running. It truly is a family affair.
